Making Dreams Possible Club Coaching Grants

What is a Making Dreams Possible club coaching grant?
The Chevrolet Making Dreams Possible Club Coaching Grant is a Chevrolet funded initiative coordinated through the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) which aims to enhance the experience of Canadian athletes through quality coaching by offering grants to local sport clubs for coach training and development.

What is required to apply?
Each applicant must meet the basic eligibility criteria. The Selection Committee requires that all applicants be incorporated as a Non-for-Profit organization, and be affiliated with the recognized provincial/territorial sport organization and/or national sport organization of an Olympic or Paralympic sport.

How many grants are available?
In each wave there are a minimum of 50 – $2,000 coaching grants available.

How often are grants awarded?
Grants are awarded twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. Please refer to
the application form for deadline submissions.

Where do I send my application?
You can apply online, or download the application form and send it via post or fax to the address below. The club’s proof of incorporation and all coaches’ NCCP transcripts should also be included with the submission:

When are clubs informed of their selection?
A letter of decision will be sent in the mail in April for the February application deadline and in November for the September application deadline.

What are the next steps if my club becomes a recipient of the grant?
If your club becomes a club recipient, you will be notified by post. Included in your
congratulatory letter will be three copies of your “Club Duties and Obligations” that you
will need to sign, returning two copies to the CAC office. Upon receipt of the signed
agreement, a cheque for $1,000 will be issued and forwarded to you. Please ensure all
receipts for your expenditures are kept. Once you reach the $2,000 maximum amount,
send all your receipts to CAC, along with the completed Post-Activity Report, to receive
the remaining portion of your grant.

Grant Application Process

How does the grant application process work?

  • Interested athlete/coach/parent complete the online or PDF application form and submit to the Coaching Association of Canada.
  • Once received at CAC, the application parts 1 and 2, coaches’ NCCP transcripts and proof of incorporation of each applicant is evaluated to ensure that they meet the minimum requirements.
  • The application is then scored based on the following criteria: Package Presentation/Administration, Current Program Offering and the Promotional/Learning Plan.
  • Once scored, the Selection Committee reviews the applicants with the highest scores and makes a final decision.
  • Each club will be informed of their status of application, successful or not, via post.

Tips and Helpful Hints to completing your application:
This page contains useful and helpful tips to assist you in completing the Making Dreams Possible Club Coaching Grant application form.

– To ensure that your application meets the basic eligibility criteria, make sure that all questions in your application are answered to the best of your knowledge and include the following:

a) A copy of your club’s proof of incorporation (i.e. certificates of incorporation, letter of patent, or the most recent Canada Corporations Act Annual Summary) Note: Please indicate on the application form if your club has previously submitted the necessary attachments.

b) All coaches’ NCCP transcripts.

– When awarding grants, CAC uses a points based scoring system. Points are awarded based on the Package Presentation/Administration, Current Program Offering and Promotional/Learning Plan.

– Package Presentation/Administration:

  • Provide CAC with a completed application package. This includes: proof of incorporation, coaches’ NCCP transcripts, detailed learning plan.

– Current Program Offering:

  • When completing the application, make sure to answer all questions to the best of your knowledge. Remember to give a full description of your club programs and any technical/tactical coach development workshops your club offers or supports.
  • Full marks will be given to club programs which cover the following: the sport discipline/event, the competitive/recreation levels coached, the number of participants, the number of coaches per team/division, whether or not club offers programs for athletes with disabilities, and equity accessibility.
  • Technical/tactical coach development workshops can include professional development opportunities and should cover any and all programs which coaches have attended that were initiated by the club. Points will also be awarded to clubs who support their coaches attending workshops held by other clubs or provincial sporting organizations.
  • When completing the Head Coach portion of the application; if your association does not have a Head Coach, please include the name and title of your Technical Director, or Coordinator of Coaching and their NCCP certification levels (if applicable).
  • For the purpose of this application, the Head Coach, Technical Director, or Coordinator of Coaching is defined as: the person with the highest coaching qualifications within a club or association, whose primary focus is to build and implement programs that support and nurture player and coach development.
  • Please attach all coaches’ NCCP transcripts; this includes the Head Coach as well as up to 6 NCCP transcripts from the rest of your coaching staff.
  • Equity accessibility: Programs which are equally accessible to all including female, aboriginal, and athletes with disabilities.

– Promotional Plan:

  • Explain, in as much detail as possible, how your club plans on promoting Chevrolet upon receipt of the grant. (i.e. signage in club facilities, logo on website, vehicle display opportunities at club events, etc.).

– Learning Plan:

  • Within the learning plan, include and explain which NCCP courses your coaches plan to attend and how this will benefit the current program. Please include all information available i.e. levels, dates of attendance, location, etc.
  • Give a description of all technical/tactical workshops that your coaches will be attending or that your organization will propose and recommend to your coaches. This includes any professional development workshops.
  • Provide a description of all sharing experience activities you will propose to your association’s coaching staff such as a Mentorship program, web based share board and conferences.
