Coaches play a critical role
in the experience of young athletes and this national funding
initiative will strengthen their impact and contribute to
the success of sport clubs throughout the country.
One hundred grants of $2,000 each will be awarded each year
to allow sport clubs/local sport associations to host coach
training and education activities in support of community
sport programs. There will be two application deadlines annually:
February and September. There will be up to 50 grants for
each application wave.
Funding for the 2011 Club Coaching and High Performance Coach Grants have not been confirmed by Chevrolet and CAC.

Target Audience:
Club coaches and their young aspiring Canadian athletes.
Eligibility:
This grant is open to sport-specific clubs, local sport
associations, and/or leagues, operating at the community level
and directing the majority of their programs towards children
and youth (e.g. minor hockey associations, alpine ski clubs,
soccer clubs, etc.).
For the purposes of this application, the term “club”
is used to represent any local sport association operating
at the community level.
Provincial/territorial sport organizations and national
sport organizations are NOT eligible to apply.
Clubs will be able to develop and implement a season plan
to train their coaches and improve the skills of their athletes.
This plan may include:
- National Coaching Certification Program workshops
- Technical/tactical clinics for coaches and athletes
- Coaching seminars
- Web-based resources
Clubs must:
- Be affiliated with the recognized provincial/territorial
sport organization and/or national sport organization of
an Olympic or Paralympic sport.
- Be incorporated as a not-for-profit club.
- Direct the majority of their programs towards children
and youth under 18 years of age.
Note: Clubs that have been successfully granted the Chevrolet
Club Coaching Grant must wait one year prior to applying for
an additional grant.
Selection Criteria:
Eligible clubs will be selected based on the following weighting
factors:
- # of community sport participants at the club
- # of coaches participating in the event
- Quality of the training program design
- A description of the impact of the training for the club
- NCCP Certification level of the head coach
- Geographical distribution
Selection Process:
CAC will send out a call for applications through the network
of national/provincial/territorial sport organizations, and
through www.coach.ca. The application must be submitted by the
president, program director or head coach of the club.
CAC will review all applications and short-list candidates
for final approval.
